Miley Cyrus dropped her last name in September for the release of her 10th studio album,Bass Persuades. She returned to the stage for the first time in years at the Hollywood Bowl for two sold-out shows on October 16 and 18. The singer broke down in tears while telling the crowd a story about her late godmother, Dolly Parton, before singing “Jolene.”

Miley Cyrus revealed to the audience that she only saw Dolly Parton perform live once years ago at the Hollywood Bowl. Miley declined an invitation to join her “Aunt Dolly” on stage. Instead, she wanted to experience the moment as a fan. The “Flowers” singer got emotional performing at the same venue all these years later.

“Sitting here with you all right now, feeling her all around me, knowing that she’s right here beside me everyday, all the time, more than she could be when she was here,” Miley Cyrus said.

She shared another story about her godmother at the second show. Miley Cyrus revealed that Dolly Parton’s ghost visited her. “I actually have a Dolly mannequin in my bedroom. She gave it to me for Christmas, and it’s dressed like her, it’s built like her, and when I was by myself I actually took my phone and I played ‘Jolene’ for her on video just holding it up to the mannequin and lit a candle,” she shared.

The story continued, “And I put a flower down for her, and I said ‘Dolly, if you’re here right now, flicker the lights,’ and I didn’t say anything out loud, but the entire hallway started flickering.” Miley Cyrus said that her fiance, Maxx Morando, could verify the ghostly encounter.

Fans Slam Lackluster Hollywood Bowl Performance

It’s been several years since Miley Cyrus performed live. Fans were beyond excited to see her on stage again. However, a few left disappointed and vented on social media about the experience. They were upset that Miley didn’t sing certain songs and let the audience sing large chunks of others.

Miley Cyrus hit back at the criticism during the final Hollywood Bowl show. She denied that her heart wasn’t in performing. She called out disappointed fans for using her concert for “clickbait.”

“I’m fully present; every bit of our fears, they live in the future, and I have no business even questioning that right now because the only thing that I have is this moment with all of you,”PEOPLE magazine reported Miley told the crowd.
