After more than four decades as one half of hip-hop’s legendary Salt-N-Pepa, Cheryl “Salt” James is stepping into a new spotlight — and she’s doing it on her own terms. The Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee has officially released her debut solo album, “Salty N Lit.”
The 15-track project gives Salt room to explore her faith, life experiences, personal growth, and the freedom that comes with creating from a deeply personal place. Inspired by Matthew 5:13 and the ideas of being “salt” and “light,” the album brings those themes into Salt’s own musical world.
The project features an impressive lineup, including Shanice, Dee-1, Erica Campbell, Finn Matthews, and Elijah Blake, with legendary rapper Chuck D appearing on an interlude.
Salt began introducing the album with singles including “Chosen,” “Kings & Queens,” “Diamonds In Light,” and “Overcomers” featuring Erica Campbell. Each release has offered another glimpse into the woman behind the iconic legacy.
Now, with Salty N Lit officially here, Salt isn’t looking back — she’s opening a brand-new chapter and inviting everyone to experience it with her.
