Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird Recently Made An Appearance On The After The Call Podcast
Viewers were introduced to Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird and the Shannon family through a number of reality shows. These include Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Mama June.
Recently, Pumpkin made an appearance on the After the Call podcast. This weekly seriesis dedicated to mental health and experiences with trauma, produced in partnership with the After Watch Foundation.

In a clip recently shared by the podcast, Pumpkin could be heard admitting, “My stepdad. He was abusive,” describing her stepfather, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson. He and Mama June were never officially married, but had a commitment ceremony in 2013. They officially separated in 2014 after being together for around a decade.
The Mama June star revealed, “I had a retinal detachment at 14 or 15 because of him. My Mom’s always had a pretty crappy taste in men.” Sharing the impact it has had on her, she expressed, “Even as an adult… like it’s very hard for me to trust men.”
Pumpkin’s Comments Caused Fans To Reexamine A Moment From Here Comes Honey Boo Boo
Lauryn continued, revealingthat her stepfather threw a set of keys at her during one of his “anger fits.” Sharing that it scratched her retina, she then revealed that this was in the middle of the show.
Pumpkin later claimed that Honey Boo Boo hid so much “of my stepdad’s anger” when it came to what was shown on television. As the clip came to a close, she then asked the people who “covered it up” why they didn’t think to “stand up” for her.
