Danielle Ponder will unleash her sophomore album this fall. The soul powerhouse has announcedEverything Has Changedwill release Oct. 9 via Dead Oceans. It will mark Ponder’s first album under the label, in partnership with Phoebe Bridgers.
Described as Ponder’s “most self-assured work to date,”Everything Has Changedwas produced by Mike Elizondo and Barney Lister, with additional contributions from Bartees Strange, Avis Reese, and Ray Jones.
Speaking on Everything Has Changed, Ponder shares, “There’s a lot of calling out on this album more than I typically would do, and it’s because I am at the end of the game of centering men and feeling like they’re saviors whose validation will make me finally worthy.”
Everything Has Changedfeatures 14 tracks, including the era-launching “Power” and the latest offering, “Sun and Moon.” The latter track is built around a vibrant production, anchored by Elizondo’s warm bass and spirited handclaps, along with Lister’s rhythmic percussion grooves as Ponder sings about the cyclical reality of pursuing love.
“I love that this song is upbeat but the lyrics are quite sad,” Ponder says of “Sun and Moon.” “The sun and moon provide a beautiful symbol of two lovers who spend a life chasing each other but never quite coming together. The drums and tempo of the song remind me of the push and pull chase that I’ve been in more than I’d like to admit. It’s not until the end where the drums stop that she realizes how exhausted she is with the game and longs for something deeper.”
Everything Has Changedwill follow Ponder’s 2022 debut album,Some Of Us Are Brave.The eight-track project included standouts such as the title track and “Someone Like You.” In 2023, Ponder released a deluxe edition that featured six bonus tracks, including “Roll The Credits.”
