SCARECROW is an official nominee for Song of the Year – Metal/Alternative Metal at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards, recognized for the single “Twisted,” featuring Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider. The ceremony takes place September 20 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
“Twisted” is a full-circle moment for SCARECROW founder, writer, and lead vocalist John Blaze, whose gritty, gruff-voiced sound has defined the band since its earliest days — when the original lineup featured Twisted Sister guitarist Eddie Ojeda. The new single grew out of Blaze’s long friendship and musical history with Snider and the members of Twisted Sister, resulting in a modern, radio-ready rock anthem built around Snider’s guest vocals. The track also features violin work from Mark Wood of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, lead guitar by TJ Jordan, and drums by Bobby Marks of Humble Pie.
The nomination caps a career that stretches back decades, from SCARECROW’s Redlight Records debut and its 2000s Pavement Music follow-up, A Touch of Madness, through Blaze’s more recent reinvention of the project as the theatrical stage production “I AM SCARECROW.” A career-spanning compilation, Blood, Sweat and 20 Years, followed on The Spectra Music Group, rounding out two decades of music before “Twisted” arrived as one of the most powerful singles of Blaze’s career.
A Song of the Year nomination in the Metal/Alternative Metal category recognizes songwriting and performance judged on craft rather than industry muscle — a fitting distinction for a song built on genuine friendship and decades of shared history in rock.
