The Prince Estate, in partnership with Legacy Recordings, has unleashed a new posthumous album from Prince. Aptly titled Timeless, the LP contains 10 rare and previously unreleased songs from The Purple One’s iconic Vault.
Timeless was intentionally curated to take listeners on a journey through every major era of Prince’s career, spanning from 1977 to 2016. Speaking on the album, L. Londell McMillan, co-manager of the Prince Estate, said in a statement, “Timeless describes Prince in many ways, even beyond his musical genius. Prince was indeed one of only one, a legendary artist and master musician with unprecedented style, faith, courage, dignity and brilliance. His overall essence and spirit remains timeless.”
McMillan continued, “This current album covers 5 decades of Prince’s music from 1977 through 2016 with unreleased music from the Prince Vault, all on one album. Enjoy this music project along with his legendary catalog of released music, as it all is TIMELESS and more to come this year and beyond.”
Charles F. Spicer Jr, compilation producer of Timeless, added, “One of the goals behind Timeless was to capture the extraordinary breadth of Prince’s creativity and artistry across nearly four decades. From one of the earliest recordings of his career to one of his final live tour performances, these ten songs reveal Prince as an artist who was always fearless, innovative and creative on his own terms.”
Timeless was first announced in June during Prince Celebration 2026, an annual event honoring Prince’s life, music and legacy. The announcement was preceded by “With This Tear,” a record he wrote for Celine Dion’s 1992 self-titled album, shared in April. It was followed by “Stone” (1995), released June 4, three days before what would have been the icon’s 68th birthday.
Another highlight from the album is “The Guilty Ones,” an unreleased track from 2007. According to press materials, the song was recorded Oct. 26, 2007, by Ian Boxill at Paisley Park. It features additional vocals by Marva King and Shelby J., with Josh Dunham on bass and Cora Coleman-Dunham on drums. The song was produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince.
Timeless aligns with the 10th anniversary of Prince’s death; he passed away April 21, 2016, at age 57. The album concludes with a live rendition of “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore?” recorded during Prince’s final tour, Piano & a Microphone Tour, at Oakland’s Oracle Arena on March 4, 2016.
“Ending the album with a final tour performance felt especially meaningful because it captures the connection Prince had with his audience, with everyone singing along and the applause at the end reflecting the love and energy in the room,” said Spicer. “Timeless is a fitting reminder of why Prince’s music will continue to move people for generations to come.”
