Blending cinematic intensity with raw emotional honesty, GREYE has carved out a sound that feels both deeply personal and universally powerful. Whether channeling heartbreak, resilience, transformation, or hope, the band approaches music not as a formula, but as an emotional experience designed to pull listeners into every lyric, melody, and explosive chorus. Through vulnerable storytelling, soaring rock energy, and a relentless commitment to authenticity, GREYE continues to define what they proudly call “Southern Rock the New Era” — a sound rooted in real life, fearless creativity, and the unshakable bond they share both as artists and as family.
Your music often blends emotional vulnerability with cinematic rock energy. When you sit down to write, do you begin with the emotion, the melody, or the story you want to tell?
Karen (Manager)- What separates GREYE is that they don’t approach songwriting like a formula. They approach it like storytelling through emotion and atmosphere. The band is constantly focused on dynamics — balancing vulnerability with power, intimacy with explosive energy, tension with release. That’s where the “cinematic rock” feel comes from. The songs aren’t just meant to be heard; they’re meant to pull listeners into a moment emotionally and visually.
A quiet lyric can suddenly explode into a massive chorus. A deeply personal verse can evolve into an anthem that thousands of people scream back together live. That contrast has become a huge part of GREYE’s identity.
At the end of the day, the emotion drives everything. If the feeling is real, the melody becomes stronger, the story becomes more relatable, and the performance becomes unforgettable. That’s the heartbeat behind GREYE and a huge reason why the music connects so deeply with listeners.
Hannah (Lead Singer)- I would say typically the melody comes first, and then the story just sort of flows after. It also depends on what my environment is like at any given time – if I’m going through something deeply emotional in my personal life, a lot of times the emotion is first and the melody/music is secondary, but if I’ve just consumed a particularly moving piece of media (a book, film, etc.) or if I just have an idea for a story in my head, then I will apply those themes to a piece of music.
Jett (Guitar)- Usually, I start with a chord progression or a concept of a guitar lick. Chord progressions dictate the emotional state and direction of the music. They often provide the foundation of an emotionally charged narrative structure before the lyrics arrive. For me, the writing process is very organic. I practice alone often and my fingers will guide me through the routines and patterns that I have learned to love and replicate. Through this repetition, sparks of new song concepts will manifest. After the inspiration strikes, I attempt to capture the idea as quickly as I can for further production/collaboration later. Occasionally, a complete concept will unravel itself to me. Those are the pieces I am most proud of – songs that almost appear on my fretboard for me to present to the band as a whole.
GREYE has built a reputation for creating music that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. What life experiences have shaped the heart of your songwriting the most?
Karen– One of GREYE’s greatest strengths is their ability to turn deeply personal experiences into something listeners can see themselves in. A song may begin from one specific moment in someone’s life, but by the time it’s finished, it speaks to anyone who has ever felt broken, lost, hopeful, determined, or ready to fight for another chance. That emotional connection is what makes the music feel universal.
There’s also a strong sense of perseverance woven into the band’s DNA. GREYE wasn’t built overnight. Every setback, every late night, every mile traveled, every challenge faced as independent artists has fueled the passion behind the music. Those experiences taught the band that authenticity matters more than trends, and that people connect most to music when it comes from a real place.
That’s why the songs hit with both cinematic intensity and emotional vulnerability. GREYE isn’t trying to write perfect stories — they’re trying to write honest ones. And in a world full of surface-level noise, that honesty is exactly what continues to resonate with fans.
Hannah- Many of our songs are based directly on our experiences as a band. While not everyone is a musician, I do think there is something very relatable about working hard for something you are passionate about, and all of the extreme highs and lows that come with that. We try to weave the emotion of the grit and drive that it takes to make it in this industry into broader terms with which people can identify.
Jett- I draw inspiration from many forms of media as well as lived experiences. There are countless video games, stories, and experiences that have shaped and refined my musical taste and approach. My father is an incredible inspiration to me in every capacity, as well as my bands mates/band family. Studying, learning and listening to anything I can hear is also critical. I aspire to be a musical sponge, absorbing all that I can.
In an era where so much music is built for quick attention spans, your work feels intentional and layered. How important is authenticity to you as artists?
Karen– The band has never chased trends or tried to manufacture an identity that wasn’t real. Every lyric, every melody, every performance comes from genuine experiences, emotions, and perspectives. That’s why the music feels layered and intentional — because it’s built from honesty, not algorithms.
GREYE understands that listeners today can tell the difference between something created for a moment and something created from the heart. The band would rather make one song that deeply connects with someone’s life than ten songs designed only for quick clicks or viral moments. That emotional connection has always mattered more than following whatever trend happens to be dominating the industry that week.
The authenticity also comes through in the way the band blends styles. They’re not trying to force themselves into one lane or recreate the past. GREYE embraces emotional vulnerability, cinematic storytelling, modern rock energy, and Southern rock roots because those influences genuinely reflect who they are as artists and people.
That honesty is what fans connect to most. Whether someone is going through heartbreak, fighting through personal struggles, chasing a dream, or searching for hope, GREYE wants the music to feel real enough that listeners know they’re not alone.
At the end of the day, authenticity is what gives music longevity. It’s what turns songs into soundtracks for people’s lives. And for GREYE, that will always matter more than creating something disposable.
Hannah– Thank you! Authenticity truly is everything. If you are disingenuous with your audience at any point, you can never expect to have a lasting relationship with them. We want to build a mutual respect with our audience and a real connection that lasts a lifetime so that they can grow with us as we continue to learn how to navigate this crazy business.
Jett– Music is a deep rooted and raw artistic expression of ourselves and should be born earnest and genuine. Most individuals can easily detect the hollowness of a disingenuous production or product. If you cannot be authentic and truly believe in what you are creating, then how could anyone else? Deep meaningful connection is the core of any successful community. That is what we aspire to deliver to our fans and future fans.
Your sound carries elements of alternative rock, pop, and powerful storytelling. Which artists or influences helped shape GREYE into what it is today?
Karen– What really shaped GREYE wasn’t just one artist or genre — it was the idea that music should make people feel something real. Whether it’s heartbreak, resilience, loss, hope, or redemption, the band pulls inspiration from life itself and channels it through a sound that blends rock intensity with cinematic storytelling and unforgettable melodies.
That’s why GREYE often describes themselves as “Southern Rock the New Era” They respect where the genre came from, but they’re focused on pushing it forward into a new era.
Hannah– So many different things! I listened to a lot of Broadway and film soundtracks growing up, and in my teen years I listened to a lot of prog rock. Now, I listen to everything from reggaeton to pop to singer-songwriter, and I would credit a lot of modern pop/modern rock for my current approach to writing. As much fun as it was to write things that were more esoteric and with very floral language in Greye’s infancy, the goal is certainly for as many people to be able to identify with our music as possible, and listening to a lot more popular music has helped teach me how to do that while still remaining true to the roots of our sound.
Jett- For me, the list is endless. A list of my favorite bands include Plini, Ambrosia, Polyphia, Magnolia Park, Bring Me The Horizon, Thornhill, YES, Kansas, Styx, John Butler Trio, Citizen Wolfe, Nobuo Uematsu, Funk Fiction, John Mayer, Bad Omens, Evanescence, Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, fox capture plan, Nine Inch Nails, Steve Vai, Matteo Mancuso, Akira Yamaoka, TOOL, A Perfect Circle, Linking Park, LEISURE, Oasis, Cardinal Black, Genesis, Frank Zappa……to name only a few.

Many listeners connect to your music because it speaks to resilience, heartbreak, and transformation. What message do you hope fans walk away with after hearing your songs?
Karen– GREYE’s goal has never been to create background noise. They want the music to mean something. They want fans to feel understood. Whether someone is dealing with loss, fighting personal battles, chasing dreams that feel impossible, or trying to rediscover who they are, the band hopes the songs become a reminder that pain doesn’t have to define the ending of the story.
Transformation is a huge part of GREYE’s identity. Life changes people. Struggles shape people. Heartbreak teaches people things they never expected to learn. But those experiences can also create strength, clarity, and growth. The band wants listeners to know that scars don’t make you weak — they prove you survived something difficult and kept moving forward.
There’s also a strong message about authenticity woven into everything GREYE does. The band wants fans to feel empowered to embrace who they truly are instead of trying to fit into someone else’s expectations. That emotional honesty is what connects the music to people on such a personal level.
At the end of the day, GREYE hopes fans walk away feeling something real — strength, hope, release, connection, maybe even healing. If a song helps someone feel seen during a difficult moment or gives them the strength to keep pushing forward, then the music has done exactly what it was meant to do.
Hannah– I hope that they are able to look at us and see that heartbreak and tragedy is what allows for transformation to take place, and that chaos and hardship are opportunities for growth.
Jett– To never surrender! To always be the best version of yourself you can be for yourself and others. To be emboldened and empowered.
The chemistry within GREYE feels genuine both onstage and in the studio. How do your individual personalities and creative styles balance each other creatively?
Karen– The chemistry works because there’s mutual respect. Everybody understands that the song comes first. There’s no ego battle over who gets the spotlight or whose idea wins. The band challenges each other creatively, but always with the goal of making the music stronger. Sometimes the softer emotional moments need a heavier edge, and sometimes the loudest rock moments need restraint and honesty. GREYE has learned how to balance both.
Onstage, that connection becomes even more obvious. What fans see isn’t manufactured — it’s real trust and years of building something together. Each member naturally fills a role, and together they create an energy that feels bigger than the individuals themselves. That’s why audiences connect with GREYE the way they do. It’s not just a performance — it feels authentic, alive, and emotionally charged every single night.
That balance of heart, intensity, and authenticity is a huge part of why GREYE continues to define what they call “Southern Rock the New Era.”
Hannah- We truly love each other so much, and our different life backgrounds and musical backgrounds have given us the experience to work together as a very cohesive unit. I essentially grew up in this band and there is such an implicit trust that allows us to mesh creatively.
Jett– We are a family and that means a lot when we work together. We always entertain and explore each other’s musical ideas and concepts even if we do not necessarily agree with them initially or at all. We truly trust each other and the results are conveyed in our music. Our tracks are powerful and each part is in unison. We blend incredibly well as a team despite having powerful personalities and attitude that would typically clash in other scenarios/situations/groups.
Looking ahead, what excites you most about the next chapter of GREYE — whether musically, personally, or in the connection you continue building with your audience?
Karen– What’s most exciting about the next chapter of GREYE is that the band is only beginning to scratch the surface of what they’re capable of — creatively, emotionally, and in the connection, they’re building with fans around the world.
Musically, GREYE is continuing to evolve in a way that feels fearless. The band isn’t interested in repeating the same formula over and over. They’re pushing deeper into the cinematic storytelling, bigger emotional dynamics, heavier rock energy, and more vulnerable songwriting that has become their signature. The next wave of music feels larger, more personal, and more emotionally charged than anything they’ve done before. It still carries that Southern Rock the New Era identity, but it’s evolving into something even more unique and unmistakably GREYE.
Personally, there’s a lot of excitement around growth. Every challenge, every show, every mile traveled together has strengthened the chemistry within the band. They’ve built a level of trust creatively and personally that allows them to take bigger risks and tell even more honest stories through the music. That growth is translating directly into the performances, the songwriting, and the overall vision for where GREYE is headed.
But more than anything, what excites the band most is the connection with the audience. GREYE fans don’t just listen to the music — they feel it, live through it, and often see pieces of their own lives inside the songs. Watching those connections grow show after show, message after message, is what drives the band forward.
The goal has never been simply to gain listeners. The goal is to build a community around authenticity, resilience, emotion, and real human connection. GREYE wants fans to feel like they’re part of this journey, not just watching from the outside.
That’s why the future feels so exciting right now. The band is growing, the audience is growing, the music is evolving, and the message is resonating louder than ever. GREYE truly believes the next chapter is going to be the biggest and most meaningful one yet.
Hannah– I am tremendously excited about everything we have on the horizon. There are so many opportunities that are coming our way that we have all worked tremendously hard for, and I am so excited to share all of them with our audience. I am just excited to continue growing and making new friends and fans and bring our music and our message to a wider audience.
Jett– Every upcoming live performance and every musical opportunity is still fresh and exciting to me! I still get excited picking up my guitars at home for practice. I relish the fact that I continue to feel this way about Greye after all these years. I live for this band, our music and our fans. I cannot wait to continue on our path and play for our growing future fanbase year after year.
