With her latest single and music video, ‘Warrior’, Reachel Singh looks inwards, and reframes courage as not force or confrontation, but rather, a willingness to face fear, conditioning, limitations, and those parts of ourselves that we find resistant to change.
This concept lies at the very heart of ‘Warrior’, which moves at a much slower pace than per previous release, ‘Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha’, making it more meditative in nature, and the entire song serves to highlight the inwardly focused direction of her upcoming music an art.
‘Warrior’ came to Singh not long after Reachel arrived in Portugal, and with that it is closely tied a period of personal transformation. She not only calls on her own lived experience as inspiration, but also her family history. Coming from a long line of strong and resilient warriors – her own mother overcame poverty, and created a new life for herself, raising two children in a country where the possibilities were endless. With this background, ‘Warrior’ confronts that which stands between a person and a fuller sense of self. while examining war, division, and the destruction of nature. As she says, “The deepest war is not external, but within”.
The music video which accompanies ‘Warrior’ expands on the ideas of the song, with Singh positioned on a beautiful Portuguese beach, where she walks by the waters. Midway through the clip she starts building a bonfire, and the contrasting elements of water and fire are not lost on the viewer, with the imagery suggesting purification and cleansing: shedding fears and blockages and releasing the warrior within.
