6LACK appreciates the recharge that Sundays bring.
On “Sunday Again,” featuring 2 Chainz, the alt-R&B singer equates the serenity his relationship brings him to his favorite day of the week. “You know you good for catching me on my weak days / Oh, it feels like Sunday again,” he sings.
Meanwhile, 2 Chainz delivers a smooth 16-bar with Saturday-night energy that only makes the case for Sunday rest all the more necessary: “You say it’s Sunday morning / I say it’s Saturday night / Because I still ain’t sleeping.”
The soulful track was produced by Childish Major, Trey Lander, Justin Cho and Jesse Tyler. It features additional background vocals from Markus Randle, Dos Dias, Jordan Ward, Serayah and Destin Laurel.
Regarding “Sunday Again,” 6LACK wrote on Instagram, “the last couple years, Sundays have been my ones. it’s the day that slows everything down, and refuels my creativity. it’s a day of getting out of my head & being deeply present. i found a routine. i hit the gym. farmers market. family time. write. rest. talk shit. talk to God. whatever i actually need to feel good. then im charged up for the week, figuring out the next cool thing i can create. tasks pile up, the weekdays slip away, and the second i feel like i need a break, its Sunday Again.”
“Sunday Again” is the second single from 6LACK’s fourth album, Love is the New Gangsta, out May 22 via LVRN/Interscope Records. The 15-track album will also include “Bird Flu,” which dropped in late March.
Love is the New Gangsta will follow his Grammy-nominated album Since I Have A Lover, which dropped in 2023. Speaking on the latter, 6LACK noted, TThe album is a collection of songs about love, and learning through the pains that come with growth. It’s a reminder that regardless of the outcome, choosing to better yourself, and sharing that experience with the people around you, has a lasting effect.”
