The actress recently landed a huge new gig. Now, fans are worried she’s retiring from The View amid her exciting new role.
Whoopi Goldberg Lands New Gig
Whoopi Goldberg fulfilled a lifetime dream last year when she made a guest appearance on the Italian soap opera Un Posto Al Sole. The actress has a second home in Italy and was recently stranded there after a volcano erupted. She missed an episode ofThe View because of the situation. She might miss a whole lot more while busy with her new gig.
Netflix announced this week that Whoopi Goldberg is part of the ensemble cast of Women Like Us, a new film from director Tasha Smith. Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox also star in the film.
The synopsis teases an emotional but funny movie. “A recently widowed woman is whisked away to the Hamptons on what should’ve been her 30th wedding anniversary. What starts as a getaway becomes a heartfelt journey through grief, friendship, love,” Netflix’s Facebook post said.
In addition to the Netflix movie, Whoopi Goldberg’sThe Whoopi Monologue is running Off-Broadway through the end of August. The comedian attended opening night with her daughter.
Fans Worried She’s Retiring FromThe View Ahead Of Season 30
Whoopi Goldberg joinedThe View in Season 11, taking over as moderator after Rosie O’Donnell left. The daytime talk show is on hiatus for the rest of the summer. Season 30 premieres this fall. The network reportedly plans to slash the budget, which could lead to at least one host’s departure. Could it be time for Whoopi Goldberg to retire?
She previously said she couldn’t afford to retire, despite her six-figure salary. However, her new gig with Netflix sparked speculation amongThe View fans that Whoopi Goldberg might not return for the new season. They took to Reddit to share their thoughts on her exciting new role.
- “Maybe she’ll take some time off and Joy will do more moderating. Or perhaps they’ll use this opportunity to bring in special guest moderators for Season 30.”
- “So she’ll miss some time. Either Joy moderates on Mondays, or the other cohosts will get to rotate.”
- “I think Joy or Whoopi will announce retirement by the mid-season in season 30. S31, there will be a shake-up.”
