Emerging singer-songwriter UMI has dropped her latest offering, “why don’t we go,” alongside the official visualizer.
On the flirtatious track, UMI wastes no time exploring a new autumn fling in and out of their clothes. She can only show them this thrill when they’re alone.
“I met you on a Sunday / And made love on a Monday, see / Think back it was a fun day / I wouldn’t want it any other way,” she sings.
Regarding her new song, UMI says, “This song is about enjoying your eternal youth, to be playful, to be free, to not think so much about life.”
She continues, “Through the lyrics I paint a scene of me falling in love with someone I met for the first time, dancing through the night and forgetting my parents advice. ‘Why don’t we go’ is me inviting myself and the other person to just let go and to live for the sake of living—even if it’s just for one night.”
“Why don’t we go” is the follow-up to UMI’s recent song, “happy im,” released in August. The latter track, which she co-penned with V-Ron, marked the first taste of her new era and will be featured on her upcoming EP, talking to the wind.
Slated for Jan. 19, 2024, talking to the wind is expected to see “UMI in a confident new light as she fully embraces love, life, but above all, feeling okay with being lost in the world.”
Talking to the wind is UMI’s first independently released project. The four-song EP will come a year behind her 2022 debut album, Forest in the City, which came out on Keep Cool/RCA Records.
Forest in the City is an album that did not feature any guest appearances. It comprises several focus tracks, including “Moonlit Room” and “Sorry.”
The latter, which was announced as the apologetic lead single, was produced by 1Mind, Reske, and Aldae.
Starting from spring 2022 through later that fall, UMI went on a tour for Forest in the City in North America, the U.K., and Europe.
Speaking of concerts, UMI is set to support Jhené Aiko’s headlining show at Oakland Arena on Dec. 2 in Oakland, California.
Coco Jones and Tink also are tapped as special guests. The show is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. PT. For more information, visit ticketmaster.com.
Prior to this appearance in Oakland, UMI will return to Lune Souleil in Los Angeles to host two new mediation sessions.
The two events, where she’ll lead group breathing and a sound bowl, will take place Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. PT and 9 p.m. PT. To attend a session, visit lunesouleil.com.
