“I make whatever the fuck I want,” says producer and alt-pop artist Slush Puppy. “I play every instrument, I record, and I produce. I’ll write a ballad, love song, or a fucking screamo song — I want to do it all. The genre is just myself.”
The San Diego-born artist has had his hands full as of recent, collaborating with noteworthy artists like Snow Wife, Katy Perry, Katseye, Royal & the Serpent, Cortis, and Enhypen. That said, he’s managed to make time for his own, boundary-pushing work — as evidenced by his chaotic new single, “WHORE,” released via MDDN Records.

Riding on a current of pulsating synths and guttural bass, the track is a charged celebration of indulgence and partying — easily fitting into the echelons of blissed-out 2010s clubby pop. It also sheds some light on the disruptive artist himself, and his aversion to holding anything back. “This song came from me being tired of pretending to be palatable,” Slush says. “‘WHORE’ is me reclaiming the ugly, the chaotic, and the honest parts of who I am and finding beauty in that.”
Following the single release, Slush Puppy will join Rhea Raj’s Commotion tour this winter, with stops in Chicago, Toronto, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles. Find tickets here.
