Little is known about how the current slate of DC Studios films will connect to the new, reshaped DC Universe that James Gunn and Peter Safran are crafting. This includes the hero Shazam, which director David F. Sandberg could show up in future films.
In a recent tweet replying to a fan that was hesitant on seeing the upcoming Shazam! Fury of the Gods because of uncertainty over Shazamās future in the DC Universe, Sandberg said that he definitely wouldnāt if people donāt go see the movie.
Sandberg went on to note that āthereās nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC,ā and that itās possible the character could pop up in the future. The filmmaker reiterated that if people want more of him, though, the best thing to do is go see the film.
āHe definitely wonāt if people donāt go see the movie,ā said Sandberg. āWhat Iāve been told is that thereās nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if thatās what you want your best bet is to go see the film.ā
Shazam! Fury of the GodsĀ will see the return of Asher Angel and Zachary Levi as they reprise their respective roles as Billy Batson and Shazam. Joining them are returning cast members Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy, Faithe Herman and Meagan Good as Darla, Ian Chen and Ross Bulter as Eugene, Grace Fulton as Mary, Jovan Arman and D.J. Cotrona as Pedro, Marta Milans, Cooper Andrews, and Djimon Hounsou.
After defeating Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins two years ago, the sequel will feature the Shazam family going up against much more dangerous and godly threats, with the introductions of the daughters of Atlas ā Hespera and Kalypso, who are set to be portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren andĀ Kill BillĀ actress Lucy Liu.Ā West Side StoryĀ star Rachel Zeigler has also been cast.
Shazam! Fury of the GodsĀ is directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) from a screenplay written byĀ Shazam!Ā scribe Henry Gayden. It is produced by Peter Safran.
