One HGTV Star Opened Up About Past Issues After A Recent Home Disaster

One HGTV star recently opened up about past struggles on their show. They also opened up more about the story with fans during a recent interview.

David Bromstad is an American designer who was the winner of the debut season of HGTV Design Star. Since then, he has worked on a number of shows for the network, including Color Splash and My Lottery Dream Home.
As previously reported, Bromstad shared the renovation of his new Florida home with My Lottery Dream Home: David’s Happy Ending. Things took a turn, however, when local storms ended up flooding the house.
Bromstad admitted that the toll started to get to him, causing him to open up about his past with addiction. At the time, he shared, “Using substances has been…it’s a real easy escape to take yourself out of a stressful situation. I knew I was in trouble.”
David Bromstad Recently Shared What Has Been Keeping Him In A ‘Good Place’
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bromstad elaborated on what he was going through. As he noted, “I was not taking care of myself. I was doing things to my body that just weren’t correct.”
Bromstad believed that stress was fueling his addiction. Wanting a change, he decided to enter rehab. On his second day there, a psychiatrist’s simple question really made an impression on him.
Bromstad shared, “‘How are you today?’ I said, ‘I’m so excited to be here. I’m ready to get help and live a better life!’ He goes, ‘When’s that gonna stop so the real work can begin?’”
Today, however, Bromstad shared that he was in a “good place” as he reaches three years of sobriety. However, he felt that his recent success reflects the good condition he’s in. As he mused, during the interview, “When I was using, I was very frugal with money. I’m a very expensive sober person!”
