Emerging progressive R&B singer Casper Sage has shared his new EP Pseudo.
The three-track project features the previously shared song “Spinnin‘,” which was released in January. “With ‘Spinnin’,’ I was trying to express the frustrations of trying to make the same changes within my life, but somehow ending up right where I started from. Ultimately, always ending up in my own way,” Sage told Rated R&B.
Pseudo opens with the title track, co-produced by Sage, SEPH, and Viko Marley. Here, Sage has an honest conversation with a potential love interest about needing to set boundaries before taking things further. He acknowledges his personal struggles and believes it’s best to give himself the necessary space and time to become a better version of himself before committing to a relationship.
“I’ma need your patience / ‘Cause all I need is space now / Don’t need hesitation / Couple things I’ll do without / But baby girl you ain’t the one / If it’s meant to be, we’ll work it out / We’ll see when the day comes / Please just give me grace now,” Sage sings on the bittersweet tune.
Sage says his mini project is “an encapsulation of a moment in time that was filled with purposeful loneliness, chaotic emotional turmoil, and vices trying to cover it all up.” He adds, “[The song selection] really works to represent what it’s like to want people around you when you’re lonely, but constantly feel like you might be better off on your own.”
Although Pseudo is a personal and emotional collection, Sage describes the recording process as “almost worryingly easy as the music came together extremely quickly and the lyrics just follow what the instrumental felt like to me. One of my favorite experiences recording in LA undoubtedly.”
Pseudo is Sage’s first project since his self-titled project, released in May 2022. Later that November, he returned with “Rodeo Clown,” a cover of Dijon’s 2021 track. He capped the year with “Is This Real Life?” which he described to Rated R&B as his take on young love. “It’s playful, weird, warm, and unexpected. I tried to make the song feel like a dream you never wanna wake up from,” he shared.”
Prior to that, he had also released a hip-hop-leaning project called Winter in December 2019.
Sage’s consistency as an artist is evident, and Pseudo is sure to satisfy his growing fan base as they eagerly anticipate a full body of work.
