Where they from? Lyon, France.
This past weekend Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was caught reading a book on the sideline of their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers during actual gameplay. The book in question was Inner Excellence by Jim Murphy, a self-help book geared towards helping athletes engage their utmost potential. May I make a suggestion for the next book you read, A.J.? None other than Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Metal & Grindcore by our editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian. It’s like Inner Excellence but for people who don’t shower. You can borrow the copy my grandma got me for Hanukkah.
Why the hype?
It might be redundant to describe a grindcore band as “cacophonous” but it is nonetheless the word that kept running through my mind as I jammed these french madmen in my West Philly apartment this past week. The drummer sounds like he is collapsing, just literally discombobulating all over the drumkit (in a good way) and the vocals are pretty disgusting and all-over-the-place, even for a genre of music that usually features phlegm spasms as the norm.
Latest Release?
Split with Convulsions, Hecatombe. This band has released three entire split EPs in the past three weeks, I literally cannot keep up! And somehow each one is more gonzo and bonkers than the previous one. Can they keep this up? Can they release an album a week for the entirety of 2025? Perhaps some Jim Murphy literature would help.
