You have reached the voicemail box of Zyah Belle. The emerging singer sets boundaries on her new single “DND,” which she co-wrote with Covi.
Over a pulsing production accentuated with soulful hand claps, Belle puts her phone on do not disturb to practice self-care. Specifically, she protects her peace from a guy who thinks he has unlimited access to her.
“Blowing me up all the time / Starting to regret giving you my line / Now you think I’m available / To hear your bullsh*t like here he go / You don’t know how to take hints,” she sings.
Subject-wise, “DND” is like a jazzy version of Destiny’s Child’s “Bug a Boo,” except the pager has been upgraded to a cell phone.
Of her new single, Belle says, “This song reminds me not to care too much! Living life on ‘DND’ means being carefree and always accepting of myself! It just feels good! I believe that the energy I invoke while creating can be transmuted to whoever is listening. So, whether you twerk or two-step, you can’t listen to this song and not move your body!”
“DND” is Belle’s first song release since her 2021 EP, Who’s Listening Anyway. The seven-track features Temptest, ROMderful, Innanet James, AJ Claire and Nate Curry.
Belle will join Alex Isley on her Marigold Tour, which launches Aug. 10 in San Fransisco, California. LAYA and Gwen Bunn will also support Isley on the road.
