Yesterday evening, Green Day opened up the Super Bowl LX with a medley of “Holiday,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “American Idiot,” and “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” “From the Bay to the Bowl, opened Super Bowl LX in our own backyard at Levi’s Stadium,” the band posted on Instagram. “That energy was off the charts.”
Although Green Day didn’t perform their adjusted lyric in “American Idiot” to say they don’t want to be “part of a MAGA agenda,” their weekend still included some political pushback. At an event in San Francisco hosted by FanDuel and Spotify, they told ICE agents to quit their “shitty jobs,” replaced a lyric in “Holiday” to say “the representative from Epstein Island has the floor,” and dedicated the song to the city of Minneapolis.
