To announce his upcoming album Up On A Hill, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Gabriel Bernini has released a breezy gem of a single. Channeling the strut of Big Star’s “In the Street” or a Matthew Sweet cut from the early 90s, the record’s title track “Up On A Hill” is a hook-driven day in the sun. In the accompanying Super 8-shot music video, Bernini and his girlfriend explore antique shops, wash their car, and roam around Los Angeles suffused in sentimental grain.
Up On A Hill marks more than one departure for Gabe. As the first album recorded in Bernini’s home studio in Los Angeles, the comfort has allowed Gabriel his first experience writing songs on piano versus guitar. You wouldn’t guess it based on the lead riff of the single, but the track is one of the only guitar-led songs on the record. With more heartfelt originals from the full album to come, check out the “Up On A Hill” music video below.
Up On A Hill releases December 2nd and will be available for pre-order here.
