The story of Van Halen is really plentiful. The band has gone through many facelifts. In fact, many have chosen sides on which rendition of Van Halen they enjoy most.
While the unfortunate passing of Eddie Van Halen has surely left a mark on everyone within the band, it looks like there were some plans about doing it right one more time.
Via a SiriusXM video interview with Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, he spoke about the time when he had met up with Eddie Van Halen in 2019 during the recording of the first single, “Rise,” for the upcoming album.
What’s more, is that it was revealed that Van Halen was looking to bring in Michael Anthony for an original lineup one more time as a farewell tour was to be scheduled. He said (via Loudersound): “He’s playing us some of Wolf’s new stuff, which we all know now was coming out, and he was like a proud papa saying that, like he played all the instruments and he did that and everything else, and then he said something really cool, he was like, ‘Hey, just between us, I’m like, I wanna let you know, like Van Halen’s coming back and we gonna go out the way we came with Michael. We’re planning a run, and we’re gonna go out the way we came in like a farewell tour, but like, do it old school.’”
Sadly, this would never come into fruition, but it seemed like the waves were there to create something special one last time in the mind of Eddie Van Halen, but it just would never actually happen. What would this tour look like? It probably would have been one of the best selling tours ever, but of course, we can only speculate and never actually see it happen.
