‘Somebody Else’, the new single from Dos Floris, opens with the unaccompanied vocals of the artist, pure and bare, shortly before being joined by a subtle electronic instrumental track, that continues to expand throughout the track.
The synths creep in an out, highlighting Dos Floris’ hyper-conscious lyrics, a gorgeous introduction to the artist’s upcoming album, ‘Broken Love’. While the album is written in the wake of an emotionally charged separation, it is about the journey Dos Floris, real name Florence Donovan, takes back to her self. With new single, ‘Somebody Else’, she examines the struggles experienced when one needs to re-centre themselves in a mindset of compassion, after being deeply hurt by a partner, who is in turn, acting out of their own wounds. Recognising that fighting to keep the relationship is futile, they recognise that they need to forgive, but also, to move on.
The music video for ‘Somebody Else’, with animations created by director Marzio Mariani, is set in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Flowers, as big as clouds, blossom and bloom in time-lapse, giving colour and hope in an otherwise gloomy scene. Meanwhile, an astronaut is caught up in it all, caught on the very edge of life, exploring the degradation of the landscape, his sad fate at the end suggesting that sometimes the most hopeful response to a situation is to let go.
