I have long advocated for the supremacy of Lousy, the 2019 album from exuberant, elastic emo supergroup Perspective, a Lovely Hand to Hold. On that album, the band took a sound rooted in emo and added rock ‘n roll guitar heroics, choruses bound together with undeniable hooks, and a whirlwind of energy.
It is with great pleasure that I am here to tell you that Perspective is finally back with a new album, Phantasmagorialand, out June 24th on Refresh Records. The first single, “Still (Everyday),” shimmies along on groovy melodies and palm-muted guitar chugs until it reaches the explosive chorus—one of my favorite musical moments of the entire year. There’s falsetto howls and triumphant guitar riffs. It feels like doing 95 down a mountain in a car with no windshield.
I’ve had a chance to hear this album and I can promise you that the album only gets wilder from here. Genre boundaries get bent; there are ass-kicking riffs and ass-shaking melodies. It’s a sprawling journey delivered in a tight package, and it could not be more fun or more exhilarating.
Stream the album’s debut single, “Still (Everyday)” below. Preorder bundles for the album are available over at the Refresh Records store.
