With guitars cutting through right away and a relentless bassline chugging the song along, there’s a ferocious, yet focused, energy to LAPÊCHE’s new single “Slight.” The band keeps the guitar sparse in the verses, allowing the bass to push everything forward, and making the chorus more emphatic, with the guitars on full attack as vocalist Krista Diem sings “wander in wonder, never here / react without pause / dull skill, dry will / circumstance absolves all sin.”
The band describes “Slight” as being “about the experience of living life in a constant state of bracing for impact; imposing will and control as a response to fear, and excusing actions based on circumstance. ‘Slight’ explores waking from this trance to begin acting from a place of presence rather than reactivity.”
“Slight” is out tomorrow on New Granada Records, but you can stream it a day early below.
