Toby Knapp will be releasing a compilation album in August titled Midnight Host: Unreleased Works. The album will contain 15 previously unreleased songs dating as far back as 1988 with Knapp playing all instruments and handling vocal duties.
The guitarist explains:
“I’m singing and playing mostly real drums on these songs. I recorded most of this music when I was a teenager learning how to play and record my music. The vocals are mostly humorous, or in poor taste, but I was learning to write songs and I needed vocals and lyrics for that.
“I was trying to sing like King Diamond meets Cronos from Venom. I fell short on that goal but this is a really entertaining album and you can hear my guitar chops and musical style coming together. I was never going to release this stuff but I figured it’s now or never.”
2025 has been a busy year for Knapp with the release of three albums; Waxen’s High Plains Bloodlust, Where Evil Follows’ Ruination Revelation and a remixed and remastered version of Onward’s demo The Neverending Sun through Moribund and Stormspell Records respectively.
“There’s more music on the way this year going into next year,” states the guitarist. “And I’ve found it’s always a good time to release a compilation album on my own during these times because more listeners are paying attention, you’re on the radar a bit more.”
Midnight Host will be released via Knapp’s own label, Spectral Evidence, in a limited pressing.
