Rising singer Thuy has released her sophomore EP, Girls Like Me Don’t Cry.
It’s the follow-up to her 2021 debut EP, I Hope U See This.
The seven-track release includes the previously shared songs “Trust” featuring RINI and “Playing Tricks.” Both songs arrived with supporting videos directed by Edgar Daniel.
On the flirty opening tune, “U Should Feel Special,” Thuy channels pop phenomenon Ariana Grande.
“Dumb Luck,” co-produced by DTB and Hightone, is a lovesick jam where she sings about coming across a mate she didn’t think she would ever find.
Of the new EP and its title track, Thuy shares, “It’s okay to cry. Crying is not a sign of weakness; crying is when you are in tune with yourself, and you let it out and then go back to go back to your life.”
She adds, “When I wrote this song, I was trying to tough it out during a really hard time in my life, and all I wanted to do was let it out. Once I did, I felt like a huge weight off my shoulder, and it showed me that I can have and show emotion but still be strong at the same time.”
Thuy releases the accompanying video for the title track to celebrate Girls Like Me Don’t Cry. She calls on Daniel to direct the video, which follows the four successful women who appear to be the strongest on the exterior but silently suffering inside.
“It was important to showcase these women in their element in hopes that other people can see themselves in these women and hopefully find strength through that. Even the strongest people cry and it’s not a sign of weakness and that’s essentially what I’m trying to say through the song,” says Thuy.
