The Weeknd has recruited Summer Walker for an official remix of his song “Best Friends.”
Already a fire track, Walker ups the ante with her pop-friendly vocals. She offers her perspective on a friendship that has blurred the lines between lovers and friends.
“Tryna turn the time back / Keep it as a friendship, we already tried that / When you gonna face it? / We’re on the other side / Know too much already,” sings Walker.
In an Instagram video, Walker shared her excitement about collaborating with the megastar. “Bisshhh I got a song with @theweeknd ! Thas crazy Best Friends – Remix.”
“Best Friends (Remix)” marks the latest in a streak of remixes from The Weeknd. He dished out alternate versions of “Out of Time” with Kaytranada and, most recently, one for “How Do I Make You Love?” with Sebastian Ingrosso & Salvatore Ganacci. Both original versions appear on his 2022 album Dawn FM, released in January.
Walker, who released Still Over It last year, scored a top ten single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in June with “Unloyal,” featuring Ari Lennox. It’s the first song from Walker’s hit album to grace this list.
The Weeknd and Walker compete against each other in the Best R&B category at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Walker’s visual for the “No Love (Extended)” featuring SZA and Cardi B is nominated, while The Weeknd is up for “Out Of Time.”
On Aug. 6, Walker is set to play at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Later this month, she’ll perform at Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.
The Weeknd is on a headlining stadium tour supporting Dawn FM and After Hours. Kaytranada, Snoh Aalegra and Mike Dean are special guests for The Weeknd’s Afters Hours Til Dawn Tour. Tickets are available on his official website.
