Smoove Desi is a rising artist hailing from the streets of New York City. Born in Sylhet, Bangladesh, he moved to the United States when he was a toddler. Growing up, music was always an integral part of his life. His love for hip hop music blossomed in middle school when he was introduced to the culture by his friends. He was heavily inspired by legendary artists like Big Pun, Jay Z, Nas, State Property, Fabolus, D-Block, G-Unit, and Dipset.
At the age of 12, Smoove Desi began rapping during lunchtime while his friend would beat on the table, and he would flow to the beat to entertain them. Soon, he began battle rapping in school and hookie parties. Around the same time, SMACK DVD was thriving, and his witty punchlines started to catch the attention of people around town. However, being involved in street politics distracted him from pursuing his music career further.
Although he made a few songs here and there, he was unable to showcase his full potential due to his involvement in street activities. In 2016, he was shot, which made things worse. Music seemed to be far from his mind until one day he decided to focus on his true love, which was music. After spending months in the studio, he released his first single, Mastani, which received great reception.
When asked about the type of music he makes, Smoove Desi replied, “I have so many songs in different genres, I don’t even know how to label my style. I’m just in my own lane, Smoove Desi lane!” He has a new EP called Up All Night that will be released next month, and the first single is called Zara Zara. The chorus is in Hindi, and the verse is in English, making for a unique and exciting listening experience.
Smoove Desi’s new music video can be found on YouTube and on every major music platform, including Apple Music, Spotify, and TikTok. Keep an eye out for his upcoming EP and get ready to be blown away by his fresh and distinct sound.
