Metalcore stand-outs, The Plot in You, played an incredible set at NYC’s Webster Hall for the final night of their tour with Holding Absence, Boundaries, and Acres. The entire line-up was a true reflection of what the metalcore scene is about right now. Taking risks, broadening sound, and capturing the new audiences while staying true to their roots for the OGs. Upon entering the iconic Webster Hall in NYC, it was clear that The Plot in You bring in all from the scene. The crowd was a sea of amazing merch from Sleep Token, to Slayer, to Kublai Khan TX, it was an amalgamation of all of the great music happening right now, bringing it all together for The Plot in You.
The night started with UK-based group, Acres, who tore up the stage, and opened up the pit for the night. Following up were Connecticut-based hardcore band, Boundaries. The band were a great addition to the line-up, showcasing a more brutal and traditional hardcore sound amongst the more metalcore and emocore bands on the bill. Boundaries certainly showcased Connecticut hardcore, and reminded the audience of the type of music that comes out of that region. After Boundaries were another UK-based group, Holding Absence. Their lead singer, Lucas Woodland, has an outstanding vocal quality. Their lyrics on top of the more pop-influenced rock/emo sound walk the line between a light airy sound on the belting high notes, and a raspy, grittier sound on the lower notes. It’s clear that the band’s 10 years of music-making have paid off, with the entire venue echoing the lyrics of “Afterlife”, one of the last songs of the set. Finally, The Plot in You took the stage. The stage decoration looked straight out of a dark swamp. Leaves covering most of the stage, and a projection in the back of some more nature-looking imagery. It looked like it came out of the same universe as Resident Evil 6. Opening with a banger, the band dominated the stage with “Don’t Look Away” off of their E.P. Vol 2. After that. the band took off, playing from their Vol. E.P. series and older L.P’s. What’s so great about The Plot in You, is that they’ve really kept true to their sound all of these years. They are truly one of the bands that define modern-metal/metalcore right now. Mixing newer instrumentals like synths into their heavier riffs from the guitars and deep drums. It’s great to see a band so true to themselves and not backing down from their sound.
