Friendships and relationships recently became a “hot topic” during a recent episode of The View. During the discussion, Sunny Hostin shared some insight into her own marriage. She also revealed a certain reason she almost didn’t marry her eventual husband and how she was convinced otherwise.
A Certain Celebrity Friendship Inspired A Recent ‘Hot Topic’ On The View
Sunny is a lawyer and author in addition to her work as a television host. She started her television career with Court TV, later working with CNN. For many, however, she is best known for serving as a co-host on The View, having joined the show in 2016.
In her personal life, Sunny is married to orthopedic surgeon Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin. The two also have two children together, Gabriel and Paloma. Sunny and Manny met in Maryland, although they raised their family in New York.

This past Friday saw Sunny talk about her marriage on the show. During the conversation, she shared the reason she almost didn’t marry her husband.
The “Hot Topics” segment saw the co-hosts discuss Leah Remini’s comments about her friendship with Jennifer Lopez. Remini was previously accused of feuding with Lopez after not attending her wedding.
For her part, Remini denied the feud, saying people just don’t always have time for each other as years go by. Despite this, the story inspired the co-hosts to talk about staying friends with someone who didn’t support their marriage.
Sunny Hostin Shared That She Was Given Some ‘Good Advice’
In particular, Joy Behar asked Sunny what she would do if her friend Regina Jansen told her not to marry Manny. Sunny revealed the opposite actually happened in real life.
Sunny shared, “I was going to cancel Manny because I thought he was too short. Regina told me he could stand on his medical degree, and he’d be tall enough. She gives good advice.”
That said, Sunny admitted “there have been times” when Jansen assured her, “I don’t like this person for you.” As she continued, “I think when someone loves you and your friend loves you and you can be that honest, I receive that.” She added, “I do listen to my friends that I’m close to.”
As noted by People, Sunny also spoke about how she met her Manny in her 2020 book, I Am These Truths: A Memoir of Identity, Justice, and Living Between Worlds.
As Sunny explained, the two met at church. She shared, “He was gorgeous, decked out in a beautifully tailored suit.”
Wanting to get to know him better, Sunny followed Manny to a nearby bagel shop after the service. The two struck up a conversation and eventually became a couple.
According to Sunny, the couple’s meet-cute would become something of a running joke. She shared, “He would tell folks that we’d met in a bagel shop, but I’d let him and everyone else know that we’d met in church. That’s where the connection happened. He just hadn’t seen me.”
