Steve Lacy is on the rise. “Bad Habit,” the focus track from his sophomore album, Gemini Rights, reaches No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100. It marks his first-ever top ten single on this list, equaling his first solo appearance.
“Bad Habit” initially debuted at No. 100 on the Hot 100 during the week of July 16. It also was the same week his Gemini Rights made its digital drop and hit stores. Afterward, the song jumped to No. 50 in week two and then No. 14 the following week. Its last position was No. 11 for the week of Aug. 6.
On Spotify, “Bad Habit” has amassed more than 86 million streams since its June 29 release. The Julian Klincewicz-directed video has generated more than 8.2 million views, a two million increase since publishing Lacy’s tour announcement on Aug. 2.
Lacy heads out on the road for his headlining Give You the World Tour on Oct. 2 at Gothic Theatre in Denver, Colorado. He’ll visit other major U.S. cities, before concluding on Nov. 11 at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Tickets are available now.
The headlining tour will support Gemini Rights, released on July 15 via RCA Records. The follow-up to Lacy’s 2019 album Apollo XXI debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, pushing 34,000 equivalent units in its first week.
Gemini Rights comprises ten songs, including the hit mentioned above and the album’s first single, “Mercury.” The latter track has been played over 16.2 million times since it arrived in mid-June.
About Gemini Rights, Lacy told Grammy.com, “It’s a story that is very fluid [and] very fun. To me, the subject matter could be sad if you look at it that way, but I feel like it is way more hopeful — and that’s the story: finding happiness. I’m finding myself after a heartbreak.”
