From under the Texan skies comes singer-songwriter Jeremy Gravely with his new single and music video, ‘Where I Got My Fire’.
Gravely’s passion for music and his respect for his upbringing in a small town compels him to create music that’s overflowing with authenticity that stirs up the listener’s very soul. He started playing and singing in local Christian bands a few years back, an experience which deepened Jeremy’s connection to music. Jeremy infuses his life experiences and unique perspective on life into his music, giving it a sound that is effortlessly compelling. His songwriting and performances have seen him collaborate with the likes of Marc Ford of The Black Crowes, and producer Taylor Kimball. His latest EP, ‘American Dreams And Lies’,. is a powerhouse showcase of what he’s capable of, and gives a contemporary spirit to a classic Southern sound.
Latest single, ‘Where I Got My Fire’, is Gravely’s tribute to his grandfather, who was the most significant role model in his life growing up. As the first acoustic guitar chord strikes, the listener is overwhelmed by a palpable sense of vulnerability and rawness, while the lyricism and melody transcend the stripped back nature of the song. Listeners are taken along on the journey as Gravely reflects on the relationship that he shared with his grandfather, one that was as special as it was supportive and loving. With rugged, sincere vocals, he pays his respects to the memory of the man who gave him his first guitar, thus sending him on his musical journey, and guided him towards becoming a good man.
Jeremy looks with fondness on his relationship with his grandfather, and encourages his listeners to remember and honour those who they’ve lost. It’s heartfelt and moving, and essentially gives a voice to the voiceless.
While the song itself has a powerful message, the music video, made in collaboration with filmmaker and director Adam Paul Stone, is even more so. Clips bring past and present together, as we see Jeremy going through his grandfather’s belongings, and at the same time, recalling vivid memories which are brought to life through flashbacks, revealing the unbreakable bond they shared in grainy, short-film-style visuals. The video invites viewers to reflect on the enduring impact their own familial bonds have on them, and is told from the point of view of someone who truly understands how much that means.
