Samoht is back. The rising singer and songwriter has returned with “Pool,” a new song co-produced by Sensei Bueno, Gourty Maxx, Wilke$ and Alex “Lion” Plummer.
Samoht’s identifiable and heartfelt vocals shine through in this fluid track, which may be his best work yet. The song navigates the complexities of a relationship between him and his partner, where he envisions a future but also battles with stress.
“Pool” is the follow-up to Samoht’s “Moonlight,” released in August. It has not been revealed yet if either track will appear on a future project.
Samoht last released an EP titled Yang. It arrived in 2021. Before that, Samoht released two projects in 2020: Alpha and Clear. According to Samoht in a 2020 interview with Rated R&B, his latter release reflected his personal evolution to the next level.
“I felt I needed to release anything negative from the level that I was on before I could go to the next level,” Samoht told Rated R&B’s Danielle Brissett.
He continued, “I had been elevated in all areas, but I had not let go of certain things that no longer served me. For example, holding a certain narrative of certain people and me playing the victim role, even though I had a valid point. The point wasn’t necessary anymore. I needed to release those people from this little room in my mind so that I can have more space for things that served me mentally.”
Last year, Samoht made a guest appearance on PJ Morton’s Grammy-nominated album Watch the Sun.
He appeared on “The Better Benediction,” the album’s closing song that also features Zacardi Cortez, Gene Moore, Tim Rogers and Darrel “Musiqcity” Walls. It was nominated for Best Gospel Performance/Song, marking Samoht’s first Grammy nomination.
