With an effortless sound that’s bursting with effusive energy, ‘I’m Outta Control’ from Sri Lankan-born star Mihiri Silva is the title track for the award-winning film, ‘Blue Alliance’, a police action comedy directed by Brian Pinkus.
Mihiri first became interested in music as a young child, taking piano lessons and starting to sing at four years old. She moved with her family as a teenager to Switzerland, where her father, Mano Silva, was a rock and pop musician who travelled widely throughout Europe. Mano mentored and trained Mihiri, before she embarked on her own musical career path.
Mihiri performed from 2004 with a variety of Swiss bands, including her family band, “The Silvas”, from 2004 until 2015, when her father died, at which point she decided to take a break from music. A few years later, Mihiri launched her solo career, and since then she has been making an impact on the industry, with songs ranging from heartstring-pulling ballads, right up to dance-inducing anthems. Her sound is impressive in its versatility, as she blends emotional depth with infectious hooks, captivating and resonating with listeners across the world.
‘I’m Outta Control’ exudes a “fast and furious” energy with a pop twist. Featuring guitarist Lorenz Kappeler, it fuses energetic pop beats with electronica, while Mihiri’s dynamic vocals radiate confidence. Mihiri touches on the film’s themes of justice without taking it too seriously, giving the track the perfect balance of edge and excitement.
The track’s dynamic tempo and bold instrumentation echo the tension of the film’s action-packed moments, while Mihiri’s vocals and lyricism reflect the charisma of the film’s characters, the result being an ideal companion to the film’s adrenaline-fueled narrative.
The music video for ‘I’m Outta Control’ stars Mihiri Silva and Brian Pinkus, director and co-star of Blue Alliance, and tells a story of justice and control (or a lack of it) in a fun and fresh way. After being stopped and arrested by the police, Mihiri takes on a new persona, which she doesn’t break, even when being interrogated. This “outta control” version of Mihiri is strong-willed and unafraid to take on anything or anyone standing in her way, while the vibrant, bold, and chaotic colours of the clip aid to sell Mihiri’s unruly character.
The music video has been generating a lot of buzz since its release, with about a dozen award wins so far from a range of film festivals and organisations, including “Best Music Video” from the LA Film Awards, the Mokkho International Film Festival, among others. It’s a great addition to Mihiri’s repertoire, and serves to continue to solidify her position among the pop icons that inspire her.
