Muni Long is now a Grammy winner. The singer and songwriter, formerly known as Priscilla Renea, won Best R&B Performance at the 65th Grammy Awards for “Hrs & Hrs.”
Discussing the hit single with Rated R&B, Long said, “This one is just a vibe. I was washing dishes, and it was just a very monotonous task. I hate cleaning up. So I decided to listen to some tracks while I was washing dishes.”
She continued, “This one came up, and I just started freestyling. I would every now and then use my elbow to start it over from the top. I think I wrote the song in maybe 20 minutes. I went in the studio a couple of days later and recorded it. It’s probably my favorite song to sing live. It’s just so beautiful.”
“Hrs & Hrs” was first released on Long’s sophomore EP, Public Display of Affection, in November 2021.
The love anthem gained steam from TikTok in the winter of 2022, first getting a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of 500,000 equivalent units sold.
The breakthrough single went to No. 1 on urban radio and Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. It stayed atop the latter list for eight weeks.
“Hrs & Hrs” became Long’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry, debuting at No. 83 in January 2022. It eventually peaked at No. 16 the following month.
In April 2022, “Hrs & Hrs” went platinum by the RIAA for exceeding more than one million equivalent units.
“Hrs & Hrs” appeared again on Long’s full-length debut album Public Displays of Affection: The Album, which was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Most recently, Long shared a Spanish version of “Hrs & Hrs” for Spotify Singles. She also teamed up with Amazon Music last spring and dropped a jazz version of the track.
Long is nominated for Best New Artist and Best R&B Song (“Hrs & Hrs”).
