August Alsina is back with a new single “Lied To You,” co-produced by Romano, Cesar and The Exclusives.
Over a thumping bass, Alsina addresses some ‘rumors’ he’s seen about himself. He doesn’t hold back as he confirms some things as true and others as lies.
“If they told you that I use to slang thangs, then they tellin’ the truth / If they tell you I stay with the bang gang, then they tellin’ the truth / If they tellin’ you some of the fame changed me, they tellin’ the truth / If they tell you that I ain’t a hunnid n***a then they lied to you,” Alsina sings in the chorus.
Alsina’s latest track is accompanied by an aesthetic-pleasing visual directed by Mark Gonzales a.k.a. MarkMark.
“A lot of hours and a lot of good people went into making this one happen,” MarkMark wrote in an Instagram caption.
“Lied To You” is Alsina’s first solo release since “Shake The World” and “Beautiful Way.” The former was released in April 2022, while the latter dropped in June.
It’s unclear if the above tracks will appear on a future project.
In June 2020, Alsina released The Product III: stateofEMERGEncy. The 27-track album included features from Lil Wayne, Juicy J, Tink, Yo Gotti and Darrel Walls.
“The goal of this project is to expose myself through the art and to help others reveal their true selves,” Alsina wrote in an Instagram caption. Go back into the past, bring it into the present and positively impact our future.”
He added, “I want to show the community that we’ve all had to overcome some type of obstacle. Some greater than others, but pain is pain… and pain and its threshold is subjective and different from each individual.”
A month after releasing The Product III, Alsina followed up with his Rick Ross-assisted track “Entanglements.”
In 2021, Alsina’s debut album, Testimony, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after selling one million equivalent units. The album was released on April 15, 2014, via Def Jam Recordings.
