Mark Gardner’s new album, ‘United We Stand’, was written in response to actions of the Australian government. A collaborative effort, the record also sees the involvement of local independent artists, including Alan Murphy, Stephen RG, Gordon Gunn, Craig Fraser, Justine, and Darren Hotton. ‘United We Stand’ is out now, and available to stream and download here.
The twelve track album comprises 9 songs and one instrumental track, with the title track reflecting the togetherness felt by the band during the album’s recording. It also serves as a second meaning, about the country standing together as one.
First track, ‘Happy Song’, is upbeat and lively, while song 2, ‘Walk On By’ has a distinct country feel to it. There’s a strong rhythm to the album, with horns and guitars the predominant instruments.
‘Little White Lies’, the third track, continues in jaunty style, while ‘Trouser Party’, which follows, has a more punk flavour to it.
Track 5, ‘Start Making Sense’, feels slightly political, and that, in addition to the incredible horns, makes me think of the music of legendary Australian group, The Castanet Club.
‘Round And Round’ is a strong rock track, while ‘What’s The Colour Of Money’ sees a return to the country sound of earlier songs.
Seasoned performer Mark Gardner is best known for his work with his band, The Great Divide, which was also the name of his debut EP. The title track was the most downloaded song on community radio in May 2010, while his song, ‘Hearts On Fire’, was nominated in the Music Oz Awards.
‘United We Stand’ is out now. You can find out more about Mark Gardner and his music online on his official Website, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp.
