Earlier this month we wrote about ‘V ROY’, the single from Brooklyn rapper, Pesh Milli. It was an interesting choice for a track, given that the subject matter was Chicago rapper, King Von, who’d been violently killed 2 years before. We enjoy interesting song choices here at EP, and especially enjoy the interesting people behind them, so we approached Pesh Milli with some questions, and he very gratefully took some time out to answer them.
Hi Pesh, thank you for speaking to us! Your latest release, ‘V ROY’, is a single in honour of Chicago rapper, King Von. What was it about King Von that inspired to you write the track? What has been the response from his fans?
I was personally a fan of King Von’s music, and the fans have been giving me nothing but positive responses and constructive criticism, which I’m happy and here for.
How did you get into music yourself in the first place? What’s the Pesh Milli story?
Well, I’m from a musically inclined family. My mom played all the old school classics, and my dad played turntables in house with a variety of records. He used to spin for fun, so I soaked up my love for music from my parents. What got me into writing was my cousin, Goonie, whose also an artist from Brooklyn, NY.
Who or what inspires you, from a musical point of view? What about your biggest inspirations in life overall? Who or what inspires you most in your day to day?
Who would be your dream collaboration and why?
Inspiration can come from anywhere, but I’m especially inspired when I’m around other musical talents. My biggest inspiration in life has to be my strong desire to see better for me and my family. More importantly, creating a legacy of humility, principle, outstanding moral and generational wealth. My dream collab is with Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Jeremih and Ty Dolla $ign, with Hitmaka producing everything, because to me these are some of the best creatives in the world. Only good could come from a session like this – lol
Now that we’re coming out the other side of the Covid-19 pandemic, what lessons have you learned during this time that you’ll take away with you into your “normal” life? What things have you learned you can do without, and you won’t be taking them with you?
I learned during the pandemic that whatever passion you have or whatever your skill set is, own it and nurture it. It may be the thing that changes your life. If Covid didn’t happen, I don’t think I would have ever rediscovered my passion for art and music. Now I’m applying my passions and skill sets into my normal life. I’ve learned I can do without the naysayers – those bad feelings you get from the negativity around you. I’m eradicating all bad vibes from my life.
Describe your musical sound using a maximum of 5 words.
“Crack”, lol, melodic, witty, emotional, and deep
Finally, and I ask this question of everyone I speak to, what question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does? And what’s the answer to that question?
I don’t think I have a specific question I wanna be asked. I have always been organic with everything I do, but in closing I’m open to talk on whatever subject comes up in the future. Appreciate y’all! This was fun.
