With Outlander winding down for good, Starz is betting big on the broader franchise.
As previously reported, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is coming to the premium cabler.
Viewers will be taken back in time to chart the earlier years of Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield), Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater), and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).
This time, we’re getting not one but two central romances, which could be a recipe for success or disaster.
Only time will tell whether this franchise extension will be worth our time, but delving back into the past with none other than Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents.
Is the Outlander Franchise Fading?
It isn’t the worst hook in the world, but Outlander hasn’t been able to stand the test of time in recent seasons.
Therefore, we hope the spinoff presents a nice palate cleanser that takes us back to more robust storytelling with thought and consideration for the audience.
The first teaser is a spectacle, throwing various emotional beats at the audience in a 45-second time frame.
According to Starz, the show features “two new couples who fight against all odds to be together as their love stories unfold across time.”
“From the battlefields of World War I to the rugged Highlands of 18th century Scotland, two fated love stories must defy the forces that seek to tear them apart, intersecting in surprising and unforeseen ways.”
Who Will Star On Outlander: Blood of My Blood?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s cast is rounded out with Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser (Rory Alexander) and Mrs. Fitz (Sally Messham), Ellen’s siblings, Colum MacKenzie (Séamus McLean Ross), Dougal MacKenzie (Sam Retford), and Jocasta Cameron (Sadhbh Malin).
There is also their legal advisor, Ned Gowan (Conor MacNeill), and Brian’s father, Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat (Tony Curran).
Matthew B. Roberts is the showrunner and executive producer on both Outlander and the Blood of My Blood series. Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg serve as executive producers on both.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is produced by Tall Ship Productions, No Fooling Productions Inc., Story Mining & Supply Company, and Sony Pictures Television and will be available across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada.
Starz has yet to schedule Outlander Season 8, so it’s a surprise we’re getting the spinoff first, but the network will be hoping there’s still a desire for this universe.
What do you think, Outlander Fanatics? Is there scope for another show in this universe?
