Kevin Davison is a man that knows what community means. Hailing from Kentville Canada and being a first responder, he has a deep appreciation for the people around him. Listening to his EP “Only Human”, it is clear that helping his local community was not enough. Davison wanted to help an even wider community by sharing his meaningful, heartfelt songs with all of us. It is apparent that Davison is truly a man of service, devoting his song “When Those Sirens Are Gone” to his fellow first responders and the people they aid.
Released with the help of Spectra Music Group and endorsement from In-Tune Guitar picks, Kevin Davison’s third release “Only Human” is filled with songs that range from heartfelt to foot stomping. The impact of the tracks is accentuated by high quality production that highlights Davison’s clear, strong voice. It combines classic country sounds such as pedal steel ambiance with contemporary drums, creating a fresh, yet familiar feeling while listening. Despite only containing five songs, Davison’s EP packs a huge punch. The track “Wonder Woman” features a catchy melody, driving drums, and memorable lyrics.
As a First Responder by career, creating music as powerful and high quality as that on “Only Human” is an impressive feat. Writing, playing, and recording songs this catchy as a hobby is incredibly rare. It is reminiscent of legends such as Lee Dorsey working as a mechanic, or Professor Longhair working as a janitor in the record shop that sold his now highly respected albums. On top of this, holding a job as important as those in the front lines is even more rare. There is something very honest about someone so devoted to their craft that they will cut out time in their schedule to create, particularly when it is as excellent as Davison’s work.
The heart of Davison’s music seems to stem from the work he’s done. In his music, it is clear he understands people as well as what they need. His music is honest, reflects the feelings of his listeners, and resonates with all kinds of people. New fans can go find his other two albums “Just the Beginning” and “Hear” which are equally as good as this EP. Past fans will be excited to hear his new work after waiting for nearly fifteen years.
