“Vive” by Elston Torres will make you happy
I have always thought of Cuban-American singer/writer/ producer as the “King of Love songs” because of his songs “Closer Tonight “ and “A Perfect World”, among others. But his new song/video “Vive” with Los Reggae Monks reminds me that he is totally versatile, with songs ranging from heartbreak to political. There are no boundaries to his talent.
This s exactly the kind of song and video we need right now – happy. It brings us images and lyrics about people enjoying life, taking care of each other, having fun, being themselves – about things that are good in the world. It just dances along, carrying us with it, smiling, grinning, laughing – feeling this is going to be a good day. The artist says he wrote the song to remind us to embrace the present, live with joy and purpose, and trust oneself, encouraging unity and love beyond differences
I especially like the lyrics by Elsten Torres/Emil Temeltas/Raul Ramirez to live life with joy. Sort of like being here in Mexico:
Ask… the universe gives you
Seek… and you’ll find it
Shout out… the world will listen
Live in case you’re not here tomorrow
“Vive” is the song you put on in the background when you want to wash dishes, fix the car, plant new flowers, splash in the surf, dance, or just kick back and live. Torres has found just the right way to get you into just the right place. The video director, Daniel Barrocas, has assembled images and footage that for some will bring back memories of happy days, for others will encourage adventures, and for everybody will create smiles. Special kudos to makeup artist Alisha Renee who must have had a great time with the spray paint.
Cuban-born singer, songwriter, and producer Elsten Torres (born Listoriel Leyva Torres in Havana, Cuba) has built a distinguished career in Latin music, earning two Grammy nominations, two BMI songwriting awards, and achieving six songs in the Top Ten of Billboard’s charts, including a five-week #1 hit. As a solo artist and as the frontman of the band Fulano De Tal, Torres is known for hits like “Cristina Maria,” “No Soy Gringo,” “Selfish,” and “Normal” from the album Normal, as well as “Olvidaré” and “Dando Vueltas” from his Grammy-nominated solo album Individual. He also scored a Top Ten Billboard hit with Julio Iglesias Jr. for “Los Demas”.

Beyond his own recordings, Torres has written successful songs for a range of prominent artists, including “Caramelo” for Alejandra Guzmán, “Dejala Que Baile” for Michael Stuart, “Todo El Año” (a Billboard #1 hit) for Obie Bermúdez, and “Por Una Mujer” (Billboard Top 20) for Luis Fonsi. His songwriting credits also extend to Ricky Martin, Aleks Syntek, Oscar de Leon, and others.
“Vive” will pick you up when you are down. It will keep you up when the world around you is down. And it will stay with you whether you dance to it, sing to it or just kick back and enjoy it.
