Track Premiere: Besieged – “Violence Beyond All Reason”

The wild-eyed Winnipeggers in Besieged started bringing their morbid visions of death-y thrash metal to life way back in 2003. The drip of new music since then has been slow; this Friday’s Violence Beyond All Reason is just the band’s second album, and their first in 12 years. That long layoff makes every song on Violence feel labored over, like the band kept tightening the screws until every down-picked note and snare hit delivered the maximum possible amount of bestial devastation. (Yes, I did just name-check two early Sepultura records in this paragraph. No, I don’t regret it.)

Violence Beyond All Reason’s title track is its crown jewel, and we’re stoked to be premiering it today in advance of the album’s release. Built around a ripping main riff and a battery of Kerry King-style dive bombs, the song shows what Besieged can do when they’re firing on all cylinders. It’s a bracing gust of anthemic, vicious thrash, the way they used to do it back in the day.
