Medusa The Gangsta Goddess is a well-established underground hip-hop legend. Known as the “Godmother of West Coast Hip Hop”, she’s not just an internationally renown musician, educator, and cultural icon, she’s also a force of wisdom, authenticity, and above all else, truth.
Medusa was one of the first Hip Hop artists to put together a live band, and her passion for her craft is tangible with every bar she spits out as she comes out fighting. Now, with a new album and national tour on the horizon, she’s bringing her sound back into the ring for a whole new audience.
With ‘Double Dutch’, Medusa brings in her powerful, rhythmic rap, as she lands every word right on the beat, squarely where she aimed it. She’s weaving her bars like the famous skipping ropes, swinging in perfect syncopation. Collaborating with producer Georgia Anne Muldrow, who is a legend in her own right, she describes it as being like “planting flowers in the soil” – the pair returned to the joy of their youth, with their sound a daring, fresh, vibrant celebration of their resilience.
The music video for ‘Double Dutch’ captures the whole hip hop vibe: it’s down to earth, and honest, and as we see Medusa taking to the streets of Leimert Park Village, in South Los Angeles, her local celebrity status becomes abundantly clear. She’s had a massive impact on her community, not just on music, but also the wider picture. People come from everywhere to see her: friends, neighbours, long time supporters, to be by her side. There’s a party and it doesn’t start until Medusa gets there.
