Maxwell has added new dates to the second leg of The Night Tour. The legendary singer will perform his scheduled concert dates but has decided not to end on Oct. 23 in Mobile, Alabama. Instead, he’s expanded his itinerary with November dates in Baltimore, Maryland, and Oxon Hill, Maryland.
In addition to the new shows, it has been revealed that Maxwell is bringing a few R&B friends to support The Night Tour. Joe, who was the bill for the first leg, returns for select dates. Fantasia, Leela James, Musiq Soulchild and Ash Minor are also set to make appearances at different venues.
Maxwell’s show date on Aug. 19 is part of Star 94.5’s 25th Anniversary Concert in Orlando, Florida. It features him, Xscape and Joe as the live talent.
As mentioned above, Maxwell embarked on the first leg of The Night Tour earlier this spring with Joe and Anthony Hamilton as the special guests. Both legs support his upcoming album blacksummers’NIGHT, the third and final installment of a trilogy started in 2009.
According to a press release, the album was promised to arrive in spring 2022 on his new label Musze/BMG. It has yet to surface, but he has said it’s forthcoming.
The album’s first single, “Off,” was released in November 2021, just before receiving the Legend Award at the 2021 Soul Train Awards. The steamy single eventually reached No. 1 on the R&B radio and Billboard charts. He marked his eighth chart-topper.
At the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, Maxwell paid respect to Michael Jackson and his groundbreaking Thriller album by performing “The Lady in My Life.” He seemingly dedicated the 40th-anniversary performance to the Icon Award recipient Mary J. Blige.
Last year, Maxwell celebrated the 25th anniversary of his timeless debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite. He spoke with Rated R&B about the 1996 classic. Longtime collaborator and Sade bandmate Stuart Matthewman also offered words.
Following this editorial, in August 2021, Maxwell shared two EPs to honor the 20th anniversary of his third album, Now. Then, in June 2022, Rated R&B gathered ten of Maxwell’s most treasured gems considered underrated. Songs from both albums were covered.
