Major Spark drop new single, ‘The Other Side’, ahead of their hotly anticipated new album, ‘Walk Among The Poppies’, which is slated for release this coming September.
With meticulous attention to detail, ‘The Other Side’ sees Major Spark capture the very essence of their creative process, with their dynamic back and forth creating layers that build up a sonic soundscape. Essentially a duo comprising Mark Goodman and Brian Charles, Major Spark are able to craft massive tracks that would ordinarily require contributions from a huge raft of musicians.
The central core of ‘The Other Side’ is the propulsive drum loop performed by Moe Tucker of The Velvet Underground, reimagined from the 1997 Magnet track, ‘Julie’. Additionally, guitars shimmer with luxurious indie punk style, and bluesy harmonica solos tear through the track, performed entirely by Brian. Mark’s lyrics are comforting and plainly spoken, written as encouraging words to a young friend who was confronted by dark times. While deeply personal, we can all take on the message and remember that we should embrace our own true selves without fear of judgement, and to come out “the other side” to a brighter day.
Directed by Roger Metcalf, the music video for ‘The Other Side’, who was also responsible for the videos for their songs, ‘Beautiful Noise’, and ‘I’m Not Gonna Stand Around’, is testimony to letting your hair down and being who you want to be in life. Young people are shown determined to be their true selves, in sepia-toned footage that is interspersed with clips of old time race cars and the band themselves playing hard. It’s a great reminder to cut loose and be free.
Let it all hang out with the music video for ‘The Other Side’ below. You can find out more about Major Spark and their music online on their official website, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
