Primary Wave Music and the Luther Vandross Estate have announced a new project, Luther Vandross Classic Christmas. It will release Nov. 3.
The three-track EP will feature the soulful numbers “At Christmas Time” and “May Christmas Bring You Happiness.” It will also include a special bonus a cappella mix of “At Christmas Time.”
The two songs, written and produced by Vandross, previously appeared on Cotillion Records’ 1976 compilation album, Funky Christmas.
The a capella version of “At Christmas Time” will soundtrack Waterford‘s upcoming holiday campaign.
The luxury brand previously collaborated with the Luther Vandross Estate on exclusive crystal collections, Luther 81 and Luther 81X, which launched in August.
“Luther’s distinctive voice has been a golden thread in the tapestry of holiday music for decades,” says David Gottlieb, manager of the Luther Vandross Estate.
“This release serves not only as a testament to his remarkable talent but also as a gift that keeps on giving, allowing his enchanting melodies to continue being a cherished part of families’ holiday traditions.”
Primary Wave‘s Marketing Manager of Digital Strategy, Sean Lewis, adds, “This is more than just a Christmas album; it’s a convergence of history, emotion, and the ever-present spirit of the holidays that Luther Vandross encapsulated in his music.”
Lewis continues, “In this specially curated EP, we invite listeners to become a part of a cherished journey, where rhythms and lyrics foster a renewed sense of connection and joy in this festive season. It’s a token of remembrance and a tribute to Luther’s everlasting impact.”
Vandross released his first full-length holiday album, This Is Christmas, on Oct. 18, 1995 via Epic Records.
The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in April 2002, selling over one million copies.
This Is Christmas was reissued in 2012 as The Classic Christmas Album, featuring four bonus tracks.
In February, Legacy Recordings and J Records released a 20th anniversary expanded edition of Vandross’ sole live album, Luther Vandross: Live at Radio Music Hall 2003.
The reissued album features Vandross’ Radio City Music Hall concert sequenced chronologically, plus on-stage banter in between songs.
