Leon Thomas and Ty Dolla $ign have reunited for a new track, “Far Fetched.”
On the track, which Thomas produced with Oshi, he laments about a lopsided relationship that doesn’t seem likely to have a happily ever after.
“She got dreams of love and marriage / But that’s far-fetched, far-fetched / ‘Cause if we don’t work out / Girl’s that’s a large check,” Thomas croons.
In verse two, Ty Dolla $ign sings about the lavish lifestyle he curated for an ex. “I flew you to Europe, we had rich sex / I put you in Hermes and the Balmain / First time that you’ve been on a PJ / You complain that you don’t f*** with small planes / No more Vickie, No La Perla,” he sings.
“Far Fetched” arrives with a visualizer directed by Phil Meyer. Filmed in a condo, the visual features 360 cinematography that captures a relationship that goes from making each other’s world spin to causing it to unravel.
“Far Fetched” is the follow-up to “Mutt,” the title track to Thomas’ sophomore album, out Sept. 27 via Ty Dolla $ign’s EZMNY Records and Motown Records. MUTT will also include Freddie Gibbs-featured “Mutt (Remix).”
“The album MUTT was created shortly after a significant break-up. During the relationship, my ex had given me a dog, and as I started working on the album in my new home, I began to notice similarities between my dog’s behavior and my own,” Thomas explained. “My puppy had never received formal training, and his behavior inspired the song I was writing.”
He added, “It made me think about the give and take in relationships, and the struggle for obedience. My dog is not a pure breed; he’s a mutt. While writing the title track for my album, I came up with the theme for this collection of songs. Even though my dog may sometimes make a mess in the house or bark loudly at the neighbors, I know he means well. This became a metaphor for not being a perfect partner but having good intentions.”
MUTT follows Thomas’ debut album, Electric Dusk, which was released Aug. 18, 2023. The album included his Ty Dolla $ign-assisted single “Love Jones,” plus “X-Rated” featuring Benny the Butcher, “Breaking Point” and “Crash & Burn.” Victoria Monét appeared on the “Breaking Point (Remix).”
The Grammy-winning singer and producer is set to join Blxst’s I’ll Always Come Find You Tour, which kicks off Oct. 1 in Houston.
Thomas will perform across the U.S., hitting New Orleans, Dallas, Atlanta, Boston and St. Louis, among other cities. Thomas’ stint on the tour concludes Oct. 26 in Detroit.
The following day, on Oct. 27, Thomas will perform at the 15th annual ONE Musicfest in Atlanta. The lineup also includes Jill Scott, Keyshia Cole, Victoria Monét, Jeremih, Elmiene, and others.
