Former NFL football player turned R&B singer LARRENWONG has released his new project, 4th & Long.
The six-track EP is his game-winning play to disrupt the R&B field. Look no further than “Out the Frame,” which is worthy of being placed on his highlight reel.
Here, LARRENWONG confidently croons about scoring a touchdown between the sheets. “I’ma have you singing something like / Ooh, ooh, ooh / Lady, lady, lady, lady, lady,” he promises.
“Out the Frame” may be made for the bedroom, but it also gives a nod to legends like D’Angelo and Usher with its lyrical references. Midway through the track, he spells out his name the same way Usher does on 1997’s “Nice & Slow.”
The EP’s focal track, “7 Days,” flips Craig David‘s 2000 classic of the same title.
“‘7 Days’ is my modern take on Craig David’s UK R&B classic. I reimagined the lyrics and production to give it a fresh, contemporary feel while keeping the essence of the original,” LARRENWONG exclusively tells Rated R&B. “It’s a blend of nostalgia and new energy, bridging the past and present of R&B.”
Regarding his new project, he explains to Rated R&B, “The inspiration behind 4th & Long comes from my life in football. In the game, 4th & Long is one of the most high-stakes situations—where everything is on the line. I see a direct parallel in my life and music career right now.”
He adds, “This project represents that pivotal moment, where I’m bringing the same vision, discipline, and grind from the football field into R&B.”
4th & Long follows the Bay Area native’s 2023 EP, Greenroom, which was reissued in 2024 with a deluxe edition. Before that, he released his Songs That I Hate to Sing EP in 2022 and his debut EP, It’ll Make Sense Soon, in 2021.
In other news, LARRENWONG recently co-starred in rising R&B singer Zyah Belle’s “1-800 Heartbreak” video.
