Bachelor Nation waited years for the first season of The Golden Bachelor. ABC finally brought the idea of the older generation dating in 2023 with Gerry Turner as the lead. He lost his wife several years earlier and was looking for a second chance at love. He found it with Theresa Nist but they divorced after just a few months of marriage.
ABC announced earlier this month that The Bachelorette is on pause and they won’t air a new season in 2025. They previously announced that Bachelor In Paradise would return at some point this year. But what about the Golden Bachelor or Golden Bachelorette?
The network hasn’t revealed plans to bring either of those shows back this year, but if they do, Jonathan Rone is a strong frontrunner for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor. Why?
Why It’s Looking Good Jonathan Rone Is Next Golden Bachelor
Jonathan Rone won Bachelor Nation viewers over when he was a contestant on Joan Vassos‘ season of The Golden Bachelorette. However, he didn’t form a connection with Joan and she sent him home in week 5. She got engaged to Chock Chapple at the end of the season.
There was a lot of speculation from fans about Gerry Turner’s rejected contestants finding love with Joan’s rejected suitors. While some did spark friendships and more, Jonathan Rone found a new relationship away from the show. He announced that he was dating someone he met on a dating app.
Jonathan couldn’t stop gushing over his girlfriend in recent months. But sadly, the relationship hit a snag. He took to Instagram this week to reveal that the relationship was over.
“With a heavy heart, I want to share that I’m no longer in a relationship 💔 Thank you all for your support as I continue my journey toward happiness. I know my person is out there, and I’ll find them when the time is right.”
He tagged Joan Vassos in the post, thanking her for her support. The post included a video where he further addressed the breakup. He said that the relationship was fun but didn’t last. The Golden Bachelorette star admitted to wondering if he wasn’t good enough.
But he shot that down by listing his good qualities, including loyalty and openness. He ended the video by joking that he’s “single as a dollar bill.”

Fans flooded the comments with support. Joan Vassos’ fiance, Chock Chapple, wrote, “Wish you the best- my friend. She is out there!!!!!”
