R&B duo Jake&Papa have shared two new tracks. The first song, “Best Part of You,” interpolates Mýa’s 2000 classic “Best of Me, Part 2” featuring JAY-Z, which borrowed from Biz Markie’s 1987 popular tune “Make the Music with Your Mouth, Biz.”
“Let’s take a trip to the Bahamas (Get away) / From the snakes and the piranhas (Heaven knows) / We should put it all behind us / Make a new life in nirvana / Baby, the best luxury of all is love and loyalty / You ain’t gotta front with no persona / Baby, your soul is your designer,” sings Papa in the opening verse.
On “Do That There,” the duo pays homage to legendary singer Anita Baker and “Angel,” one of her signature songs. Jake&Papa sing about being mesmerized by the talents of a curvaceous woman.
Along with the new tracks, Jake&Papa released a colorful, self-directed video for “Best Part of You.”
“Best Part of You” and “Do That There” are Jake&Papa’s first songs of the year. The songs are part of their upcoming EP, Tattoos&Blues II, the sequel to their 2017 release.
The duo released two projects in 2021, including Octobuary and Blackberry Winter. The former effort boasted 10 songs, including the focus track “Bad MF.” Meanwhile, the latter EP, released in January 2021, included the Kenyon Dixon-assisted “Higher.”
On Oct. 6, Jake&Papa will perform at The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles, California. Tickets start at $20. Get more details on tickets here.
