Gayle King recently appeared on Sherri Sheherd’s talk show. This came after Sherri was part of a group that surprised Gayle for her 70th birthday party, which Oprah Winfrey hosted. King and Sherri spoke about the party and the moment, but then Gayle spoke up about what she considered a backstage snub by Sherri on that specific show.
Here is what Gayle had to say and why she felt Sherri snubbed her.
Gayle King Says Sherri Shepherd’s Show Snubbed Her
Gayle King was on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show this last week, and the two women talked about Gayle’s surprise 70th birthday party. Oprah Winfrey planned the party, and many of Gayle’s friends showed up. This included Sherri, who mentioned she was missing a tooth during the event.
Sherri mentioned some backstage footage of Gayle, and this led to the fellow daytime talk show host calling out what she calls a snubbing. “Outside of our green room, we have pictures of various guests on our wall, and Gayle took me to task for not putting her picture on the wall,” Sherri said. Gayle was shown looking at the photos.
“Oprah, Sherri, Kim, John, oh Joy Behar, OK, still don’t see my picture. Where’s the Gayle King picture on the wall? I wanna be on the wall too, Sherri Shepherd,” Gayle said (via Monsters & Critics). Gayle even pointed out where there was space for her picture to go, joking that they were making her beg to get a picture on the wall.
Sherri Shepherd Claps Back At Gayle King
The two talk show hosts playfully went back and forth over this supposed snubbing. Sherri responded to the comment by saying she was tired “of these celebrities complaining. She said hosts like Jimmy Kimmel also have a wall of photos. She even said she rejected Kim Coles and Niecy Nash when they wanted their photos up there since they were “friends” and not “celebrities.”
She said both women went above her head and got their photos on the wall. Sherri also said that Luenell didn’t get her picture on the wall, so she just went up and kissed the wall, leaving a lipstick kiss on it.
That is when Sherri dropped the bomb: “Gayle King is an icon who’s been here twice, so it’s only right that we give Gayle King a spot on the wall,” she said as the audience cheered the decision. She said she personally asked the art director to do it, and he put up the photo in the spot Gayle pointed out.
Sherri then got in one more dig. She said Gayle will probably still complain since it’s not close enough to Oprah’s photo.
